ABOUT US

Eight decades promoting development

With 80 years of history and a recognized commitment to the country, we are one of the most important and emblematic mining and industrial holdings in Chile.

Through our business units, we have a presence throughout the country. We also have industrial and infrastructure operations in Peru, and we are planning to participate in other markets, such as Brazil and the United States.

We operate in sectors that are critical for the economy, in three large business segments:
Mining, Industrial and Infrastructure

Our commitment to sustainable development is reflected in the 2030 Strategy, with which we seek to lead the global market for decarbonization materials, promoting an integrated business portfolio and developing innovative and sustainable solutions for our customers.

We are a publicly traded corporation, registered in the Securities Registry of the Financial Market Commission (CMF, for its acronym in Spanish).

1946

The beginning

Compañía de Aceros del Pacífico S.A. is created.

1950

Steel business

The Huachipato Steel Plant is inaugurated and starts operating in the Biobío Region.

1959

Mining expansion

Entrance into the mining business through the acquisition of the “El Algarrobo” iron ore site in the Atacama Region.

1971

New mining acquisition

Acquisition of the “El Romeral” iron ore mine in the Coquimbo Region.

1978

Productive innovation

Inauguration of the Pellet Plant in Huasco.

1981

CAP Group is created

The company is reorganized, forming CAP Group.
Compañía Siderúrgica Huachipato S.A., Compañía Minera del Pacífico S.A. and Abastecimientos CAP S.A. are created

1995

Strategic alliance

Joint venture with MC Inversiones, subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, to develop the expansion of Los Colorados mine.

2000

Industrial diversification

CAP acquires 26% of Cintac, entering the steel processing business.

2010

Partnership with Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi Corporation enters the ownership of CMP, with a 25% share.

2013

Productive approach

Reorganization of Huachipato’s productive activities, focusing on the manufacture of long products and suspending the manufacture of flat products.

2014

Expansion to infrastructure

Inauguration of CMP’s Cerro Negro Norte mine.
The Infrastructure area is created with the opening of a desalination plant in Caldera and a power transmission line.

2018

Regional presence

Cintac consolidates its presence in Peru through the acquisition of Calaminon, a company specialized in activities in the modular construction solutions sector.

2020

Mining and industrial expansion

The development of Phase V Norte in CMP’s El Romeral Mines is approved.
Cintac acquires 60% of Promet Servicios, a leading company in mining modular construction solutions.

2021

Infrastructure boost

CAP Group issues a bond for US$300 million in the United States and refinances Aguas CAP’s desalinating plant with a green loan.
Inauguration of the new bulk material transfer system in Puerto Las Losas.

2022

Acknowledgement and participation

CAP is acknowledged by Icare as company of the year.
Huachipato incorporates a workers’ representative in its Board of Directors.

2023

Vision of the future

Definition of CAP Group’s 2030 Strategy.

CMP achieves a historic production record of iron ore.

CAP Group is recognized as the third most sustainable company in the world in its sector by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).

2024

Transformation and new business

Indefinite suspension of steel operations and announcement of the Huachipato 2.0 project. Entry into the rare earth business through a strategic partnership with Canadian company Aclara Resources.

Creation of REE Alloys, a joint venture with Aclara for the production of value-added products based on iron ore and rare earth alloys.

Alliance with SMS and the German Ministry of Economy for green steel.

2025

Progress in the 2030 Strategy

Acquisition of a 10.18% stake in Aclara Resources, increasing its share in Módulo Penco; sealing its entrance into the Canadian market; the Carina project (Brazil); and a rare earth separation plant in the United States.

Consolidation of 100% ownership of Aguas CAP.

Recognition by S&P as one of the most sustainable companies in the world.

CAP Group ownership

CAP is an open stock corporation, registered in the Securities Registry of the Financial Market Commission (CMF). The regulatory framework that governs CAP, due to its legal form, is Law No. 18,045 on the Securities Market and No. 18,046 on Corporations. In fiscal year 2023, there were no changes in RUT, corporate name, legal nature, or significant changes in CAP’s ownership.

CAP Group: Global leadership in sustainability (2024)

For the fourth consecutive year, we were recognized as a global leader in sustainability in the prestigious Sustainability Yearbook, a report prepared by Standard & Poor’s (S&P), in which we ranked third. We also ranked among the top 10% of companies with the best performance in our sector.

This distinction is in addition to CAP’s inclusion for the eighth consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), where we ranked as the fourth most sustainable company in the world in the Iron Ore & Steel category. We were also included once again in the Dow Jones Sustainability MILA Pacific Alliance Index, which recognizes the leading companies in Chile, Colombia, Peru and Mexico.

Icare Company of the Year (2022)

Icare acknowledged us for promoting innovation, the inclusion of women and the incorporation of worker representatives on its Board of Directors. This award is part of the business tradition of the last decades and, therefore, also represents a record of what the country and its economic and social development have been like in the latter part of the 20th century and in the present century.

CMP Distinction with Seal of Excellence from Huella Chile program (2024)

CMP obtained the Seal of Excellence from HuellaChile, awarded by the Ministry of the Environment, becoming the first mining company to receive it, ratifying the company’s excellent work in terms of carbon management in the organization’s systems of continuous improvement and its processes.

CINTAC Group: Innovation in industrialized housing solutions

Cintac, together with its subsidiaries Cintac SAIC and PROMET Chile, was acknowledged among the most innovative companies in Chile in the Most Innovative Companies (MIC) 2024 ranking, prepared by ESE Business School Chile, MIC Business Consulting and El Mercurio.

CMP: Leader in gender inclusion (2024)

The company was awarded by Women in Mining (WIM) for being the first company in the mining sector to achieve a 60% female participation in its Executive Committee.

For the second consecutive year, this Cintac Group subsidiary received first place in the “Relocatable Modular Workforce Housing” category at World of Modular 2024, for the development of a modular camp for Codelco’s Radomiro Tomic division.
