The mining business is one of the pillars of CAP Group’s activity and is focused on the extraction and processing of essential minerals. It also plays a vital role in the supply of crucial raw materials for different industries.
It is the main producer of iron ore and pellets on the American Pacific coast. From its mining deposits and plants located in the Atacama and Coquimbo regions, it stands out for its production of magnetic iron with up to 69% iron (Fe) content, one of the highest quality worldwide, positioning itself as a key player in the supply of essential materials for the decarbonization of steel.
The company produces 98% of the iron ore exported by Chile, which it moves mainly through its three ports: Punta Totoralillo, Guacolda II and Guayacán, located in three valleys where it operates: Huasco, Elqui and Copiapó.
In 2024, through an alliance with Aclara Resources, we acquired 20% of the first deposit in Chile of rare earths, critical materials for electromobility, renewable energies and the decarbonization of the planet, located in Penco, Biobío region.
In December, we acquired 10.18% of Aclara Resources’ parent company in Canada, indirectly increasing Penco’s ownership to 28% and entering the Carina project in Brazil and a rare earths separation plant in the United States.

Aguas CAP produces and supplies desalinated water through its desalination plant in the Atacama Region, supplying Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP), Minera Caserones and local communities such as Caldera and Chañaral. As a key player in the region’s water safety, Aguas CAP guarantees a steady and reliable supply, both for industry and for the population’s consumption.
