Innovation plays a central role in our strategic transformation program, “Creamos Futuro” (We create future), and is one of the focuses of our priorities. It is an integral part of responsible development, since it allows us to evolve.

WHICH ARE CAP’S PRIORITIES?

Today we find ourselves in an environment full of challenges, which is why our priority is to consolidate a “CAP of the future”; namely, a much more dynamic organization, capable of anticipating new realities and continuously growing and transforming itself.

It is for this reason that in 2016 we initiated a Strategic Transformation Program, which we denominated WE CREATE FUTURE, and whose starting point was the appointment of “cross-cutting groups” that are now responsible for carrying out each of the processes of our strategic vision and to generate new business ideas.

The vision of the new CAP goes beyond a mere business vision. It is also a vision of how we want to be and work as a human group, of how we are to relate with our environment and community.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF INNOVATION AT CAP?

Innovation plays a central role in our transformation program and is one of the focuses of our Strategic Priorities.

Currently, the company is living a renewed culture of innovation that covers all our operations and hierarchical levels through a broad spectrum ranging from continuous improvements, via incremental creative improvements, to radical innovations (ideas) and technological breakthroughs.

HOW DOES ALL THIS TRANSLATE INTO BUSINESS FIGURES?

For example, the “continuous improvement” process has generated very relevant results at CAP Acero.

The increase in productivity (TM/man-year) has been the highest in history. At CAP Mineria, we set up an area and a team 100% dedicated to innovation, focusing on working on three axes that we deem fundamental: social innovation, short and medium-term operational innovation, and long-term strategic innovation.

Similarly, at our subsidiary, Cintac, we have set in motion new businesses, such as the generation of photovoltaic energy and self-sufficiency via the construction of a solar plant on covers (roofing) to become the largest in Latin America. Also, in our port business, we have become Chile’s third largest port operator.

HOW DOES CAP UNDERSTAND SUSTAINABILITY?

At CAP we prefer to talk about Responsible Development. The company has practiced responsible development long before the sustainability word came into use. The foregoing has been the result of a constant concern about our workers and their families, of becoming an integral and contributing member of our neighboring communities, of protecting the environment and of attending to the development of our country. That is why our “CAP, always with Chile” slogan makes perfect sense. This is indeed demonstrable, and we can provide many examples of it throughout CAP’s over 65-year history.

Responsible development means achieving a sustainable balance between today’s development and that of future generations. Innovation is part of being responsible, it allows us to evolve, because we cannot afford to remain static as the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s generations change and evolve.
